1) Why did you write your book?

I had a story to tell. I’ve always expressed myself through writing. It’s fun being creative. But writing is also a way of learning. Writing that book was a struggle and a process I had to go through. I cried writing that book. There are people in the world that have a love of hate and blood. They love war and are obsessed with killing others. Being a part of a world that harbors such hate is very troublesome for me. There’s a war for Muslims which will never end because when it comes to religious wars people never stop the fighting. I live in Taiwan and China has missiles pointed at us. Here we have air raid practices at school, at work…this all affects me and what do you do? What can you do? As I wrote the book I got rid of some apathy I developed toward the world…I started to care again about what was happening around me.

2) Who/What were you inspired by?

I was inspired by apparitions of the divinity that have occurred around the world which aren’t really discussed much. That’s where the title comes from, “Her Apparitions & Other Human Longings”. It’s the Apparition of the Divine, but it could also be the delusions of the main character, because she has schizophrenia.

3) Who supported you the most when you were writing this book?

Charlie, my husband supported me the most. It takes up a huge amount of time to a write a book. I often spent 12 hours a day writing. I didn’t see my friends or go out for almost a year because I was too busy working on it.

4) Could you tell us your future plans relevant to the book?

Book tours.

5) What are the differences between life and people in Canada and Taiwan?

I feel a genuine friendliness and openness to foreigners in Taiwan. If you get lost it is common for someone to take you to where you want to go. Most people here are followers of Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism and this reflects in the honor, respect and reverence shown to others.

6) You’ve been to many different places in the world. Have you ever heard about Lithuania?

Yes, I know that Lithuania was doing well economically before the recession.
